Re-use + Repair

Denim for men who repair things, not replace them

Fast fashion makes longevity rare—we choose a different path. Our pieces are crafted to be worn, repaired, and cherished, staying part of your wardrobe for decades, not seasons. With our Lifetime Craftsmanship Guarantee and specialized Repair & Re-use services, we ensure each garment continues its story. From expert mending to our unique trade-in program, we take responsibility for the full life cycle of your denim.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

We ship direct to all European Union countries. Since we’re based right here on the coast in Portugal, EU shipping is straightforward—no surprise customs clearance or complex paperwork.

If you’re ordering from outside the EU, send us a direct message before placing your order. International shipping fees, local import tariffs, and lost package risks vary wildly depending on where you are. We want to sort out the exact logistics and costs with you personally before sending anything out.

Keep in mind that for any returns or exchanges, you are responsible for getting the piece back to our studio in Portugal using a trackable service. Clean, freshly washed, and tracked—that way nothing gets lost along the way.

Orders are processed until Friday at 2:00 pm (14.00). Normally, preparation takes one day, and shipping 1–3 days.
However if a product is not in stock (backorder) that means we need to make your item by hand. Most of the time this can take between 2 and 8 weeks.

Each piece is made handmade skilled craftsmen. While we usually keep a few items in stock, additional production may take time because we do not mass-produce.
Materials are sourced around the world. Often these materials are produced in small batches by artisan mills and production houses, which can occasionally result in a short wait. It’s also possible a fabric is not produced anymore.

Every pair of our denim is made by a single person. One skilled maker takes it from pattern to final stitch, overseeing every detail along the way. This is one-man made or bench-made denim, built in Portugal, renowned for its exceptional clothing craftsmanship. Every garment reflects precision, durability, and character, created entirely by one pair of hands.

We collaborate with small ateliers and independent artisans, selecting only the finest materials for each piece.

Our denim is selected from Japan, China and Italy, based on characteristics of the fabric. We also use a lot of Extra Long Staple (ELS) ring-spun cotton.
Belts are made from full-grain and exotic leather sourced from Europe.

For construction, we use 20s/3 core-spun polyester thread for topstitching and 40s/2 for all other seams. This specialized thread is stronger, smoother, and more durable than standard sewing thread, ensuring your garments withstand daily wear while keeping seams neat and long-lasting.

We prioritize natural fibers and premium materials in every piece.

All product pages include detailed size charts in a seperate tab and reference images showing the fit on a model. For example, the model is 180 cm tall, weighs 78 kg, and wears a size M, helping you select the perfect fit.
To help you more with a correct size we made this measuring guide to help.

Every piece comes with a handwritten Certificate of Provenance. Borrowed straight from the art world, it’s inked and signed by the person who actually made your garment. Ink and handwriting are nearly impossible to fake. That paper carries a unique number linked to our digital ledger.

The Digital Tag

Inside the care label, you’ll find a small RFID chip. Scan it with your phone and it pulls up the garment’s record in our ledger—just a plain identification number for now. Down the line, this number will hook into the European Digital Product Passport system once EU regulations roll out.

If you don’t want the chip, cut it out. We stitched the tag so you can snip the chip section right off without pulling a single thread on the garment itself. No hard feelings.

We have two distinct collections:
SAL & OURO | Atelier Series
The Atelier Series is our core line, where every piece is shaped and perfected by hand. Jeans, jackets, trousers, belts, and small leather goods are crafted for durability, versatility, and timeless style. Each item is made by a single artisan in Portugal, with careful attention to every seam, stitch, and detail. Subtle variations—like pocket styles or hardware—ensure each piece is unique while maintaining a consistent signature. This collection celebrates mastery, repetition, and the quiet perfection of skilled hands.

SAL & OURO | Perpetual Collection
The Perpetual Collection is where inspiration meets experimentation, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that often take 30+ hours to complete. Drawing from history, art, and unexpected life moments, each item is unique, from garments to bags, and never produced in more than a handful of examples. Only the finest materials are used, and every detail is carefully crafted by hand. Many pieces are exclusive to returning customers, making them rare and highly collectible. This collection embodies the artistic, experimental spirit of Sal & Ouro.

Every garment includes a Certificate of Provenance, hand-signed and digitally recorded, documenting its origin, craftsmanship, and authenticity.

Our pieces are made from natural materials with care. We recommend hand washing inside out. Avoiding the dryer, and hanging to air dry. Use mild detergent and avoid fabric softeners. Sal & Ouro is for men who thoughtfully curate their wardrobe, and the same care applies to maintaining their pieces.

Gently brush leather and wipe it with a damp cloth. Once dry, apply leather conditioner to keep it supple and long-lasting. See our specialist care products for suggestions.

We accept standard credit card payments, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Occasionally, we offer additional local payment options depending on the shipping country.

We avoid the “sustainable” label because every garment has an impact.

Instead, we focus on Ethical Craftsmanship: working only with craftsmen in the European Union, no sweatshops and no shortcuts. We take Full Lifecycle Responsibility, offering repairs and a secondary market for our pieces. Plus, 2% of every purchase is invested directly into reforestation and researching smarter ways to work.

All our clothing is made in Europe, in Portugal, by hand. By keeping production small-scale and focused on quality over quantity, we can ensure every piece is made with care and respect.

Review Sal & Ouro | Hand made letters and jeans Portugal

“Feels good, looks good.”

Wanted to upgrade to a more mature style. More about material and craft.

I already buy watches from small micro brands. Now I do the same for shoes and clothing.

“Great Customer Service.”

I wanted to buy my first pair of selvedge jeans and, despite the FAQs, still had a few questions. They helped me out quickly, and it was refreshing how fast I could talk to a real person.
